Success factors
Before working with Biztory, many teams at Secret Escapes operated in silos, building monthly datasets in anticipation of requests, and relying heavily on spreadsheets and manual processes. Sales faced particular friction: they needed fast, context-rich answers about hotel pricing, rates, and competition—often with limited data at hand.
Leadership realized that to stay competitive in 21 markets globally, the company needed to democratize data. The ambition was simple yet bold: enable every non-confidential insight to be accessible to the people who needed it, when they needed it—without constant dependence on analysts.
Secret Escapes operates in 21 countries worldwide. They are the UK’s biggest members-only website that runs best-in-market sales of four-and five-star hotels and holidays, offering members luxury travel deals at low prices.

Laying the data foundations with Snowflake
The transformation began with migrating their data into Snowflake, enabling scalability, centralization, and performance. On top of this, they adopted Tableau for visualization, giving employees a powerful interface to explore data directly.
With this stack in place, Biztory and Secret Escapes collaborated to map out the daily questions sales teams faced, such as: “What did we charge last time for this hotel?” “How do prices for similar hotels compare on our site?” and “Are there upcoming events that shift demand?"
Modern analytics with Tableau
To make analytics truly universal, Secret Escapes acquired a Tableau site license so that their ~370 employees could access the full power of the tool—no gatekeeping, no license constraints. This removed friction around permissions and access, ensuring that everyone could leverage data without delay.

"We love data. We use it everyday to optimise the ways we know to run our business and to understand what external factors impact our business.

Rolling out smart change management
A gradual rollout ensured adoption and minimized disruption. Legacy systems remained available initially for those who favored SQL, but the new platform steadily became the default. Meanwhile, Biztory supported Secret Escapes through training, enablement, and a growing community to reinforce usage and build confidence.
Instant impact for sales negotiations with data
The difference was palpable. Sales teams now negotiate with real-time data, enabling decisions in minutes instead of hours. Because dashboards are joined-up and continually updated, teams no longer rely on outdated or fragmented spreadsheets.
Building a data-driven culture
With its site license and self-service analytics foundation in place, Secret Escapes stepped into a new data era. What was once the purview of analysts is now part of every role. Decisions across marketing, operations, and partnerships now lean on consistent insights drawn from the same trusted data model.
In effect, the once-separate worlds of boutique negotiation, market strategy, and data engineering merged into a single ecosystem—one where analytics freedom is embedded in the company’s DNA.
