TabMove Lite is a full self-service solution.

For larger migrations with higher complexity, we offer TabMove Pro as a semi-automated solution. Depending on your migration size, your project will fall into one of 3 buckets: Medium - Large - Extra Large.

TabMove has been developed to cover a wide range of content and metadata. This is a non-exhaustive list of “stuff” or assets that TabMove can migrate automatically:

• Projects & Workbooks

• Data Sources & Flows

• Users, Groups & memberships

• All permissions and ownership for projects and content

• Schedules and Tasks ( Extract Refreshes & Subscriptions)

• Custom Views, Data-Driven Alerts, Favorites, Collections, Personal Spaces

The following information is supported by TabMove when delivered as a service, but not by TabMove Lite.

• Connection Credentials (see: What happens to connection credentials?)

• Connectivity Validation

There are a number of assets that TabMove does not migrate.

• Metrics: because these are rarely used widely in an organization.

• Comments: because of their point-in-time nature.

• Virtual Connections: because of their dependency on the Advanced Management add-on.

• Revision history: because the overhead is disproportionate to the benefit.

• Thumbnails (in exceptional cases): these get recreated upon the next extract refresh or publication of a workbook.

The absolute minimum Tableau Server version to use TabMove Lite is set to version 2020.4. TabMove Lite relies on specific functionalities of Tableau Server to make the migration process as smooth as possible. As versions before 2020.4 lack these functionalities, a more tailored approach that TabMove Lite can not offer is required, and a full TabMove migration engagement with Biztory could be considered. Alternatively, first upgrading Tableau Server and then using TabMove Lite could be an acceptable approach as well.

Note that migrating Custom Views requires at least version 2023.1 due to the fact that newer API endpoints are required to obtain the Custom Views' definitions. Migrating information about which user has set which Custom View as their default, requires at least version 2023.3.

Aside from the above, there are no known restrictions to what can or can not be migrated for versions starting 2020.4. All content should be supported. If you find potential exceptions to this, feel free to contact tabmove@biztory.com.
